Eligibility & Selection Application Requirements Scholarship Application Questions
 

Length of Scholarship

  • Scholarships will be provided up to five years for a four-year college or up to three years for two-year schools or until graduation, whichever comes first. 
  • Students on scholarship may not drop out for a period of time and be reinstated as a scholarship recipient.  They must re-apply along with first-time students. 

Maintaining your Scholarship 

For students receiving a scholarship: 

  • You must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA
  • Your grades must be sent or emailed to the scholarship office*, along with your intended date of graduation, postmarked no later than:
              • June 1st for the spring semester
              • January 1st for the fall semester
              • Within 15 days after the end of each quarter

No financial aid can be sent until your grades are received. 

* A copy of your grades and intended date of graduation must be sent to the Foundation office by email or regular mail:

NOTE: The Buffett Foundation responds to questions about College Scholarships only. We will not respond to any other inquiries. 

Credit Hours Required

  • ALL NON-WORKING STUDENTS MUST ENROLL FOR AT LEAST 12 CREDIT HOURS PER SEMESTER, or you must explain any unusual or significant circumstances that would necessitate taking fewer credit hours.
  • ALL WORKING STUDENTS MUST CARRY AN ACADEMIC LOAD OF AT LEAST 9 CREDIT HOURS.  

Tuition Payment

Payments are for actual charges and are paid directly to the school.  Payments will not be made by The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation until billings are received from the university.  For some schools, this can be as late as early November.  If you receive a notice for unpaid tuition, check with your Financial Aid office to see if they have billed the Foundation and have not yet received payment.   

School Transfers

If you transfer to a different Nebraska public university, college, or community college, your scholarship will continue provided you:

  • Have notified this office in advance of your transfer 
  • Have followed all rules in maintaining your grades
  • Have told us each grade period of your intended date of graduation 
Dropped Classes

It is the responsibility of the student to reimburse The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation for any dropped classes that have already been paid for by the Foundation.

Your personal check can be made out to The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation and sent to the scholarship office. 

Change of Name

You must notify this office immediately of any change in name, address, phone number or e-mail as long as you are receiving a Susan Thompson Buffett Scholarship.
