NOTE: The Buffett Foundation responds to questions about College Scholarships only. We will not respond to any other inquiries. 

WHEN FILLING OUT THE APPLICATION YOU MUST:

  • Have applied for aid (before sending in your application) through the financial aid office of the college you attend or plan to attend prior to the college or university’s deadline for receiving aid for the upcoming semester or term.
  • Include a copy of the official printed Information Summary of your previously-filed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and your Student Aid Report (SAR), which includes your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). If you do not have the information summary of your FAFSA and SAR you will not be eligible to apply for this scholarship. 
  • Include an updated high school or college transcript, including your most recently completed semester.  If necessary, you may request that your school send your completed application when they send your transcript.  If you have completed just one semester of college, you may send your report card instead of your college transcript. 
  • Include two letters of reference from a teacher, employer or clergy (not personal friends or relatives).  These MUST accompany your application and may not be sent separately.
  • Include a one-page hand written (not typed) explanation of your life circumstances (including why a scholarship is needed) and reasons for attending college.  The more explained, the better.

Important notes:

  • YOUR APPLICATION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED PAST THE DEADLINE FOR ANY REASON.
  • Applications MUST BE POSTMARKED no later than - April 10th.
  • YOUR APPLICATION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IF IT ARRIVES "POSTAGE DUE" OR REQUIRING A SIGNATURE.
  • You must use adequate postage.  Have your envelope weighed at the Post Office.  Two stamps may not be enough.
  • Do not send anything via registered, certified, express mail or by any means that requires a signature.
  • YOUR APPLICATION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IF IT IS INCOMPLETE.
